The Ro-Na Theater in downtown Ironton was once billed as southern Ohio’s “finest theater,” and featured an Art Moderne marquee and intricate interior murals depicting various historical scenes from the region. The Ro-Na closed in the 1970’s, and became an auto-parts store.
Despite calls for its demolition, the theater was donated to the city from the Hamilton family in February 2008. Inside, volunteering efforts helped clear out debris and unwanted items while atop a new roof was placed. The Ro-Na marquee was re-installed on May 19, 2014 and re-lit four days later.
What a difference five years makes.
