Friars Club Murals
While living in the now-demolished Friar’s Club in Cincinnati, Ohio between 1941 and 1944, Lumen Martin Winter painted murals on the walls of the residents’ lounge. The 1,600 square-foot scenes, painted in tempera emulsion on a casein ground, depicted regional highlights of industry, music, religion, and literature.
Deerton, Michigan
Deerton, Michigan is an unincorporated community in Alger County that was founded in 1882 when the Detroit, Mackinac & Marquette Railroad constructed a station for a lumbering camp. A post office opened in 1922, and in 1926, a small school was constructed at the junction of Deerton-Onota Road. Today, not much is left in the community – most of the residences are abandoned, although the school still operates.
Windsor School
Windsor School is located in the Walnut Hills neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio and was constructed in 1888. It closed in 2004 after years of decline.
James Duke’s Residence
The James K. Duke House is a circa 1792 11-room brick antebellum in central Kentucky. The site is notable for its duels and connection to early horse racing in the United States.
