The Natural Bridge Tunnel is along the abandoned Kentucky Union Railway (KU) which extended for 95 miles from Lexington to Jackson, Kentucky.
The Natural Bridge Tunnel, also known as Tunnel No. 2, was constructed in 1890 for the Kentucky Union Railway. It was abandoned in 1942 when the KU’s successor, the L&N, built a new alignment between Winchester and Maloney to bypass the KU’s alignment which consisted of steep grades and tunnels.
