Tunnel No. 6, an abandoned tunnel situated along the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Panhandle Line in eastern Ohio, dates back to the period between 1849 and 1853. It was originally built by the Steubenville & Indiana Railroad. It was later abandoned by its successor, the Pennsylvania Railroad, during a project to increase clearance heights and add a second track along the route between Dennison and Steubenville, Ohio. The tunnel was bypassed in the years 1949-1950 as part of these improvements.
