Preservation Success: McCormick’s Creek Fire Tower

While this site covers mostly abandoned places, I do like to cover sites that have been preserved, such as the McCormick’s Creek Fire Tower.

While this site covers mostly abandoned places, I do like to cover the success stores: sites that have been preserved. The McCormick’s Creek Fire Tower is an 86-foot high structure with a 7-foot square cab built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It remained in active use until 1967.

Unlike many that have fallen into disrepair and removed, this one has been wonderfully preserved and recently renovated. It’s one of the highlights of McCormick’s Creek State Park in Indiana.
