I piloted a drone over the abandoned Genesee Power Station in the Southern Tier of New York on a recent evening. It was my third flight of the GoPro Karma drone which presented some teachable lessons in flying around obstacles, especially live high-voltage power lines.
Built in 1948, the coal-fired power plant was placed on cold standby in 2000 and abandoned by 2012.

I live near by and have been curious about this abandoned plant. Very interesting read! I was down there today and spoke with someone that said they are going to demo the plant soon and put in a shipping facility.
