It was a slightly chilly morning in downtown Cumberland, Maryland when I awoke to my alarm and the passing locomotives chugging along the former Western Maryland rail line through the heart of the city. I enjoyed listening to the trains throughout the night as it had a calming effect upon me, something that I recalled during my tenure at my parents house which was next to the massive Russell, Kentucky railyards. Feeling refreshed, I packed my gear and headed to my car and pointed my compass westward to Frostburg and then south to Lonaconing.
Exploring the Old Hospital on College Hill
Years ago, when I first started to explore the coalfields of Appalachia, I would venture down the Tolsia and King Coal highways toward Williamson, West Virginia. Atop College Hill was the old Williamson Memorial Hospital, a place that I had long wanted to venture inside of. On April 11, 2021, I finally had my chance.

Add Yours →Phidelphia Lodge #54 was the largest Moose Lodge in the Fraternity. So big that Phidelphia Lodge 54 planned and built Phidelphia Hospital at Mooseheart. I am close to 50 years in the Moose and that is the only building at Mooseheart that was planned, funded, and built at the “Child City.” If I am wrong, please, let me know. Best Fraternal Regards,
