Old Valley Furnace

The Old Valley Furnace, or Douglas Furnace, is a historical iron furnace located in Preston County, West Virginia. It was operational for only two or three years.







The Old Valley Furnace, also known as Douglass Furnace, is a historical iron furnace situated in Preston County, West Virginia. Built in 1837 by Andrew Ochiltree and operated by James Caldwell, 1 it was only operational for a brief period before coming under the ownership of William Douglass. 2 Both the Old Valley Furnace and Greenville, its neighboring furnace, ceased operations around 1840 due to lengthy transportation times and insufficient capital. 1
