Railroads of the Upper Peninsula
While on an expedition to the upper peninsula of Michigan, namely to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, I stumbled across two abandoned railroads.
Visiting Detroit Harbor Terminals
Before the completion of the Detroit Harbor Terminals complex along the Detroit River in Detroit, Michigan, most of the commodities and raw materials used in Detroit were shipped first by water to Cleveland, Chicago, or Toledo and sent to Detroit via the railroad.
Kentucky’s oldest iron furnace helped win the War of 1812 down in New Orleans.
Westinghouse Flood Gate
Now disused, the Westinghouse Flood Gate was constructed along Turtle Creek near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a method to prevent catastrophic floods.
