The Crowell-Collier Publishing Company, once the world’s largest magazine publishing house, once boasted its printing operations in Springfield, Ohio. It’s rise to prominence and its sudden collapse of its prized magazine division was sudden, and today, portions of the long-abandoned complex are being razed for green space.

  1. I had several relatives who worked for that company–my paternal grandfather was plant manager for the printing plant and he was there to close the factory down. His sister, who was a "spinster" in that she never married, was in a management position on the editorial level for the magazine and divided her time between Springfield, Chicago and New York—-she was a woman who was "ahead of her time." Her name was Agnes Garrity. She was a neat lady, she died in the early 70s well up into her 90s.
