Exploring the Detroit House of Correction

The Detroit House of Correction, referred to as DeHoCo, is a former penitentiary complex near Detroit, Michigan. Initially located in the city of Detroit, the Detroit House of Correction was relocated Plymouth and Northville townships between 1920 and 1931 as the old “medieval” structure was considered not only antiquated but a fire hazard.

It was closed in 2009 for budgetary reasons, and the former prison is slated for demolition in 2016.
