Torrent Tunnel

Torrent Tunnel is located along the former Kentucky Union Railway that once extended between Lexington and Jackson, Kentucky.

The Torrent Tunnel, also known as Tunnel No. 3, was constructed in 1890 for the Kentucky Union Railway. It was abandoned in 1942 when the KU’s successor, the L&N, built a new alignment between Winchester and Maloney to bypass the KU’s alignment which consisted of steep grades and tunnels.
